And no deadline - if you want to participate, come to the south end of Lovingston and tell a parade marshall, and we'll find a space for you. This year's theme is "Celebrate America".

Children's Bike Parade

For the last 5 years, the children of Nelson County have really enjoyed the bike parade. Children can walk, ride a bike or non-motorized vehicle, stroll, roller skate, etc.. There are prizes awarded for many categories, however everyone that participates gets a little something. Here is the information:

Time: Bike Parade Sign-up - 10:00am
Place: Corner of Main St. and Front St. in Lovingston, in front of the Union Bank.

Bike Parade Awards - 10:45am
Main Parade Begins - 11:00am

This year the parade theme is "Celebrate America". This is a great chance for children to show what they think is great about America. Please contact us with any questions at nelsonparade@yahoo.com. There is no deadline, so folks can sign up at 10am on July 4th. We hope to see you all there!

Thank-you to everyone who participated in our 2010 parade. This is a great time for our community to show their appreciation for their work and dedication all year long. Are you ready for the Children's Bike Parade? This parade has really become a cornerstone of our July 4th parade celebration. Children are invited to bring their bikes, wagons, strollers and other non-motorized vehicles, decorated for Independence Day.

The theme for the 2009 4th of July Parade is "The Declaration of Independence". This can be represented by a person, place or bike/wagon//stroller.

The theme for the 2009 Nelson County 4th of July Parade is "The Declaration of Independence". This is a great way to celebrate the document that began to define our freedoms and our country. This theme may be presented as a person, place or thing. We can't wait to see this parade!

2009 Parade Grand Marshall

Each year our parade committee looks for a parade grand marshall that is a great representative of our community. The 2009 Parade Grand Marshall is Ray Uttaro, Emergency Services Coordinator for Nelson County. Mr. Uttaro serves our residents at some of the most difficult times of their lives, with his committment to emergency services and compassion for victims and families of accidents. Congratulations Ray Uttaro and thanks for all that you do!

Parade Day Line-up

Main Parade
All organizations may line-up at their designated area beginning at 10am. The designated areas are at the south end of Lovingston parking lot in front of Fisher Auto Parts or at the BB&T building. We will greet you there to confirm your spot in the parade and to give you a number for display at the judge's stand. The parade will begin promptly at 11am immediately following the singing of our national anthem.

Bike Parade
Bike parade line-up begins at 10am on Main Street in front of the Union Bank building. Judging for this parade begins at 10:30 and line-up for the actual parade begins at 10:45. This parade will begin promptly at 11am immediately following the singing of our national anthem.

This year we will be adding antique tractors to the parade category list. Antique tractors may be driven or may be added to a float, and can be judged either way. Please contact us at nelsonparade@yahoo.com if you would like your tractor to participate in the parade.

The Children's Bike Parade sign-up will begin at 10:00am in front of the Union Bank on Main Street in Lovingston. Bikes, strollers, wagons and other non-motorized vehicles are invited to participate. At 10:30am, Bike Parade judging will begin. After the national anthem is sung at 11:00am, the Bike Parade will begin on Front Street at the corner of Front Street and Main Street and continue to the end of Front Street. 4th of July Parade History

Working with the Nelson County Department of Economic Develpment, a few Nelson County citizens got together and formed a parade group in the Spring of 2006. This 4th of July parade was designed “to celebrate appreciation for country, community and those that serve to protect our freedom.” Last year there were more than 40 parade participants, and more than 25 children who participated in the bike parade. Our goal is to make this an annual event.
